Suriya, Mamitha Baiju Set Screens Alight in 'Wedding Song'

The track drops the audience straight into the middle of a big, loud, thoroughly Indian wedding — the kind with too many relatives, too much food, and dancing that goes on well past anyone's better judgment. Suriya and Mamitha Baiju carry that energy on screen, trading playful looks and confident footwork through what's clearly meant to be a celebration set piece rather than a quiet romantic number.

What sets it apart, though, isn't the choreography. It's the voice behind it. Suriya recorded the vocals himself, a detail the film's composer, National Award winner G.V. Prakash Kumar, had actually teased weeks earlier. Back in June, Prakash posted a picture from the recording session on X, writing simply that Suriya was stepping in to sing a dance number for the film — a short, almost offhand announcement that ended up generating plenty of chatter among fans long before the song itself existed. The lyrics for the track come from writer Ken Karunas.

It's worth pointing out that this isn't Suriya and Prakash's first rodeo together — the two previously worked on the Tamil aviation drama "Soorarai Pottru," a collaboration many still consider one of the highlights of both their careers. Whether "The Wedding Song" reaches that level is obviously a different question, but the pairing alone has given the release some built-in goodwill.

"Vishwanath & Sons" itself is shaping up to be one of the bigger family-entertainer releases of the year, arriving in theatres worldwide on August 14. Directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya, the film follows Sanjay Vishwanath — a character introduced in the teaser as an international pistol shooter still chasing competitive dreams in his forties, long after most would have hung it up. Suriya plays the role with what early reactions describe as a mix of warmth and quiet emotional weight, echoing shades of some of his more memorable past performances.

The story also leans into a love angle between his character and Mamitha Baiju's, with a noticeable age gap that the teaser hints will be handled with some care rather than played for easy drama — a choice that tracks with Atluri's reputation for grounded, emotionally attentive storytelling in films like "Lucky Baskhar."

Rounding out the cast are Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon in supporting roles, adding further weight to what's already a fairly stacked lineup. Behind the camera, cinematographer Nimish Ravi and editor Navin Nooli make up the film's core technical team, both known for polished, commercially minded work in Telugu and Tamil cinema.

Distribution in Tamil Nadu will be handled by Think Studios, which should ensure the film gets a solid theatrical push across the state alongside its wider release.

For now, "The Wedding Song" has done what a good pre-release single is supposed to do — get people talking, get people humming, and buy the film a little more anticipation heading into its August release. Whether that momentum holds until the 14th is, as always with these things, a wait-and-see proposition. But between Suriya's vocal debut of sorts and the festive visuals, the makers seem to have picked a solid moment to remind audiences the film is coming
